Simon Kimmel

Simon Kimmel is a skilled television set designer, who also tutors in set design in the UK and abroad. He has been designing for television for over 25 years, 10 as staff at the BBC where he received his training in all aspects of TV design.

During his career Simon has created hundreds of prestigious sets for a huge variety of productions in Entertainment, Sport, News and Current Affairs and Children’s programming.

These include one-off music specials with Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Rod Stewart , Barry Manilow, the Bee Gees, Diana Ross and the Spice Girls – as well as designing the permanent sets for two series of the legendary BBC music chart show “Top of The Pops”.

Simon has always enjoyed the challenge of working on new projects with different people, thriving on the collaboration with all the members of the production team. He has an extremely good understanding of all the aspects of multi-camera studio design.

He has worked extensively both in studios and in large venues, for projects such as “Miss World” and “Sports Personality of the Year”. He has also designed various theatre productions including five ‘Royal Command’ performances.

Simon recently won the prestigious Royal Television Society award for Production Design.
