Jon Helmrich

Jon is a veteran channel formatting and franchising Expert who has developed satellite and pay TV channel launch strategies worldwide, as well as distributing television programming globally.

Jon Helmrich is founder and president of International Broadcast Communications (IBC). Launched in 2001, IBC develops satellite and pay TV channel launch strategies worldwide and distributes television programming. A 20-year veteran of the international TV marketplace, Helmrich has conducted channel format and international partnership and distribution negotiations for many US and Canadian companies including Scripps Networks International – for Food Network, HGTV, and FLN (Fine Living Network); AMC Networks — owner of Sundance Channel, WE: Women’s Entertainment, IFC, and VOOM HD; Madison Square Garden Entertainment; Chum Television — Canadian media and satellite TV company; Sony’s Game Show Network (GSN); QTN; and The Tennis Channel. IBC has aided in successful channel launches in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East with leading distributors including BSkyB, Canal Digital, UPC, Orbit Showtime, KBW, and Direct TV Latin America. His current clients include the Associated Press.

IBC also distributes programs globally including A&E Biography’s signature series FAMOUS and Encore’s award-winning documentary MIDNIGHT MOVIES, and the formats and catalogue of GSN: Game Show Network. Programs produced by Popular Arts Entertainment, Spaceworks, Ltd., and Chum have been successfully sold by IBC to major international broadcasters including Britain’s ITV and BSkyB, Japan’s AXN, Australia’s Foxtel, Latin America’s Globo and MGM Network, and France’s Canal Plus. Pre-sales have also been made to major European broadcasters NBC-Universal and RTL. Successful co-production efforts include localized versions of E! News and Cinenews in the UK (Mentorn), Japan (TV Asahi), China (Shanghai Media Group and Asia Entertainment Group), Australia (Network 10), and Scandinavia (Turner-Non Stop Entertainment).

A Michigan native, he resides in Saugatuck where he moved his international television consultancy business from Los Angeles in 2004.

Jon holds an M.A. in Liberal Studies from New York University and a B.A. in Communications from The George Washington University. He was a charter member of the National Academy of Cable Programming and is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, ATAS, and the National Council on Media and Public Affairs.
