Justin is the CCO & Partner of The Format People, based in the UK.

Justin is a BAFTA-award winning global content specialist, format creator and trainer with nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry, where he is known internationally as The Format Doctor.

With partner Michel Rodrigue, Justin co-founded The Format People in 2009, a consultancy of over 20+ carefully chosen top industry professionals. Over the last 7 years Justin has worked with broadcasters and production companies around the world to improve the creation, development and delivery of their formats in many genres, including gameshows, talent, factual entertainment, lifestyle, make-over, specialist factual, reality and chat.

These include the medical game show: “Doctors vs Internet” (NRK), which launched 2016 with an average 43% share across the series, a second season renewed, and 3 international licences already sold;  “Pablo”, the first animation series centred on a character on the autism spectrum, for BBC channel CBeebies, and distributed by Cake; and song-writing competition “Sing My Song” (China), now in its third season, which won a massive 480m viewers across the first series.

He also creates original TV formats, working closely with Michel to integrate international sales potential. These include cookery game show “Chef In Your Ear”, which launched autumn 2015 to on Food Network Canada, and on Radio-Canada, and is now in 5 other territories to date: Holland (on air), Belgium (in post-production), Germany (ZDF, on air), South Korea (second season in 2017), and Mongolia (season 1 2017), with other options sold.

Other formats he has consulted in include intelligence-based game show “Canada’s Smartest Person” , currently in its third season on pubcaster CBC;  Discovery’s competition series “Know-It-All, adapted in Sweden as “Genikampen” with a 28% share; and kids game show “Splatalot!” (CAN/AUS/UK).

Justin is exclusive consultant on game-shows for Dick de Rijk Productions, Tutor for the Entertainment Master Class, Visiting Tutor at UK’s prestigious National Film & TV School. He is a regular trainer/mentor for government agencies Northern Ireland Screen and Screen Training Ireland.

In 2016 Justin is a keynote speaker at BCWW in Seoul, as well as running for the third year TFP’s  Formats A-Z course for broadcast executives in South Korea.  He was also a speaker at MIPFORMATS 2016.

Justin co-devised and produced the history gameshow format “Codex” at London’s British Museum. Justin co-devised and produced reality shows “Shock Treatment” (Sky One) and BAFTA-winning “Starfinder” (ITV).

Previous credits include “Power Struggle”, and cult game-shows “Treasure Hunt” and “Crystal Maze”. He is also the author of 11 books for children and adults.
